GETA ARCHIVEMIYUKI HONPO

Geta and Japanese dress

Geta are often seen alongside kimono and yukata, yet the colour, seasonality, textile, and setting of the hanao deserve attention in their own right.

What to observe

Notice how the textile’s colour and motif respond to pale or dark wood. Outfit pairings can also document an object’s context.

Thinking as a collection

A display need not recreate a full outfit; a note on the textile or motif can communicate that relationship.
