Keeping provenance

Recording year, maker, material, technique, form, motif, edition, and object number gives contemporary geta documentary value.

What to observe

Separate what a card verifies from what it infers, and note who prepared it. Do not erase uncertainty; label it.

A kiri-geta observation image
Study wood, hanao, and structure from more than one angle.
A geta form image
Form, height, and shadow are also useful records.

Thinking as a collection

A certificate is not decoration. It is a record that travels with the work, and bilingual notes help future international readers.
